Alta Badia

Alta Badia is surrounded by the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is a tourist region with deeply rooted Ladin traditions. In fact, the people speak Ladin as their first language and the customs related to their culture are still very strong. The main cities in Alta Badia are Colfosco, Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano and La Valle.

If you spend your holiday in Alta Badia you can take the opportunity to get to know the Dolomites up close along with the unspoiled nature of these locations and Ladin traditions. We recommend:

  • Museum Ladin "Ciastel de Tor" located in the San Martino in Badia castle, which follows the history of the Ladin people of Alta Badia but also those of Val Gardena and Val di Fassa in Trentino.
  • The Fanes Senes Braies Natural Park Visitor's Centre in San Vigilio di Marebbe is the ideal place to learn more about the Dolomites, their formation and local flora and fauna. The Visitor's Centre is divided into 3 floors, each one dedicated to one particular theme.

Summer activities

The summer months are ideal for enjoying nature. Here are some summer activities for your outdoor enjoyment:

  • Colfosco Adventure Park: The park has 5 skill paths and various difficulty levels for a total of 600 metres and 71 platforms up to a maximum of 19 metres high. It's an opportunity for adults and children to have fun and challenge themselves.
  • Walk along Rio Gaderà / Gran Ega that passes the towns of Corvara, San Martino in Badia, Longega and Pieve di Marebbe
  • Hike to the Armentara pastures, with a landscape full of habitats with numerous species of birds and lush vegetation. The hike starts and ends in Spëscia along trail number 15 and leads to the Armentara pastures, the "Sasso della Croce" Sanctuary and the foot of the imposing Sasso di Santa Croce.
  • Hike to Le Viles with its typical Ladin buildings. Just outside the town of La Valle, walk towards Spëscia dessòt and Spëscia dessùra until you reach a group of old buildings and plunge into the history of Alta Badia.

Winter activities

If you wish to ski, Alta Badia has what you are looking for. In the ski area you will find:

  • 130 km of slopes, 70 km that are easy, 52 that are medium and 8 km that are difficult
  • 52 lifts
  • 3 toboggan runs
  • 1 snow park
  • 35 km of cross-country ski trails suitable for the classic technique and skating
  • 36 refuges where you can rest and taste the traditional specialities of Ladin cuisine

The Alta Badia ski area is part of Dolomiti Superski, the largest ski group in the world with 12 areas throughout the Dolomites. If the Alta Badia slopes aren't enough for you, you can use the same ski pass in Val Gardena or Plan de Corones.
